Diarra, in press conference : "We must go hand-in-hand if we want to win a title"
Diarra talked to the media in a press conference for the first time. His words showed he has completely adapted to the team and to Real Madrid's phylosophy. "I prefer the League," he replied when asked which title he preferred to win this year. Diarra stated that he didn't care who to play with on the midfield, and that he wouldn't mind playing on his own. "I only think about playing and making a big effort," he said.
It seems Capello likes Guti as your partner on the midfield.
I'm ready to play with any player. Guti and I can form a great partnership, but the most important thing is that the team makes progress.
Do you understand the criticism Emerson is receiving?
I don't think we can focus all the mistakes on one man. When the team fails it's because we collectively fail. We have to give our best in order to win points. We normally fail when we start a match shyly, which makes it more difficult to turn the score around.
In past seasons, the team played with only one midfielder. Do you think you could play alone in that position?
I know nothing about coaching, I am a player. The coaching staff are the only ones capable of evaluating that possibility. I am ready to play either with a teammate or on my own.
How is your adaptation to the team going?
It's going great. I get along with everyone really well. I'm going to give my best to this Club. We have to win a title this year, be it the League, the Champions League or the King's Cup. The team hasn't won anything in three years. We have to forget about the past and go hand-in-hand to be able to make progress and win a title.
Do you practice Ramadan?
I am a Muslim and I respect this tradition. There is no match this week, and this will help me in my fasting. When there's a match two days before, I eat because Ramadan allows it. I've practiced Ramadan since I was 17 years old, and have practiced it in Europe for the last 8 years. They are days like any other, only I don't eat or drink.
What do you think of the Spanish national team without Raúl?
It was a surprise to learn he wasn't called up. When I found out, I didn't dare ask him why he hadn't been drafted, especially because he scored three goals in the last ten days. The Spanish coach must have his reasons, but Raúl is still Raúl.
How are you adapting to Madrid as a city?
I'm still at the hotel and I'm feeling very well. I still don't have a home of my own. I happen to be flirting successfully too, which is always good!
What title do you prefer to win this season?
I think the League is a very important title to win, because it is most important to win at home than outside. If we win the League this year we will play the Champions League next year.
