Betis-Real Madrid in King's Cup

Real Madrid will face Real Betis Balompié in the Last 16 tie of the 2006/07 King's Cup. The first leg will be played at the Ruiz de Lopera Stadium on 10 January, while the return leg will be one week later at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Real Madrid's Sporting Director Pedja Mijatovic watched as Fabio Capello's Real Madrid drew Betis in the pairings for the Last 16 of this year's edition of the King's Cup. We saw this same matchup last season in the same competition, although they met in the quarterfinal round. Real Madrid won the tie and moved on to the next round after 1-0 victories in both Seville and Madrid.

“The Cup is a very important competition for Real Madrid because we haven't won it in many years. There is no easy opponent. Every team is good, and Betis are a strong side, but we should be the favourites. Betis aren't going through a great patch in League play, but teams look for their chance to shine in knockout ties like the Cup,” evaluated Pedja Mijatovic. According to the Madridista Sporting Director, the Seville side "are one of the toughest opponents we could have drawn, but we are confident that we can win this tie.”
