Presentation of Fernando Gago: "I'm thrilled to be joining the Club of my dreams"
Presentation number two in just as many days, and the second player of Argentinian nationality. Shortly after 1 pm CET, Ramón Calderón and Alfredo Di Stéfano officially presented Fernando Gago inside the Presidential Balcony of the Santiago Bernabeú Stadium. “We have signed one of the world's best midfielders,” declared the President.
After signing his contract in the Board Room of the Santiago Bernabéu, Fernando Gago posed with his new shirt for the first time. Moments earlier, Ramón Calderón, accompanied by Alfredo Di Stéfano, spoke about the new Madridista player. “It wasn't easy. Even the President of Boca said these negotiations were the hardest ever, just as River's President had stated days ago. It shows this Board of Directors' desire to satisfy the Club's needs and those of its supporters, and that it can also fulfill the sacred duty of correctly administering the wealth that the Members have placed in its hands.”
After acknowledging the “generosity” of the player to renounce “a hefty sum of money in order to dress in white,”, the President affirmed that “with the arrival of Fernando, Marcelo and Higuaín, we've completed a trio of white Aces who will allow the Club to bring in new generations of footballers a few at a time.”
“At his age, and with his track record, we can safely say that Real Madrid have signed one of the best midfielders in the world.” Calderón then highlighted Gago's career, his many successes in spite of his young age, and his talents.
“What stand out are his intelligence, his abitlity to read the game, his speed, and his ability to distribute the ball. He has been a key piece of every team he has played on. He has been praied by several football lovers, including fellow countrymen Maradona, Fernando Redondo, Jorge Valdano, and even our great President of Honour, Don Alfredo Di Stéfano, who all agree he is an extremely talented footballer. We know, and are sure, that you will triumph here. We thank you for choosing us and hope that you and your family are very happy here.”

Then came the moment to pose with his new shirt alongside Ramón Calderón and Alfredo Di Stéfano, and then alone. Gago closed out his presentation by thanking “all the effort by the President, Mijatovic and Baldini to make this possible. I'm thrilled to be joining the Club of my dreams. I want to take Real Madrid as far as possible.”
