Capello press conference:"We will win by the same result as last year's King's Cup return leg"
That means 4-0. Capello has praised the opponent's attacking capacity and has warned of their roughness. The press conference saw an Italian manager who addressed the press and their questions as directly and clearly as ever. He stated without blinking that “Beckham and Cassano can train, but they will not play.” He trusts Captain Raul's leadership, feels satisfied with the work of Gago and Higuaín, and requests the support of the fans. Far from alarmism and pessimism, he maintains full confidence in winning titles at season's end.
What did you think of Beckham's decision?
It's the player's decision. He spoke to the Club and he's leaving; that's it. He's a top professional, but he has already signed a very important contract with another club. In view of this, he will train with us, but he will not play again. It is not up to me if he leaves now or later. I don't think someone is capable of putting out the same performance and enthusiasm when one has already signed with someone else. But I would like to repeat that he is a great professional. Now, he has to maintain a good physical condition, but we can't count on or feature him. I have never had the slightest problem with Beckham. It is his decision what he wants to do from here to the end of the season.
Do you count Cassano in?
Cassano is out, definitely.
Is your job on the line?
I have a contract, so it is up to the Club to decide if I continue here or not. In my line of work, we are more than used to this. My position is all about what the President decides, not me.
You are going to run out of players...
We are missing people, but no matter anyway. We have to keep on playing. We hope to recover some of our injured players soon enough.
What about Ronaldo?
Ronaldo is a player of Real Madrid because he does not have a contract with any other team. He is injured and that is why he is not playing. We are talking to him; the Club is talking to him.
Are you worried about the poor scoring of late?
Yes, I am, but I am also happy because Betis did not score. We worked hard.
Do you fear the reaction of the Bernabéu?
We have failed in the last two games but we are up there, not so far behind the leader. We need the support of the fans.
Do you feel like a surgeon, as if they brought you in with your scalpel, so you could cut, clean and dispose of... and then they will bring someone else in?
I like the simile, but I hope it isn't true.
Should we stop talking about titles and honours...?
We will speak of this at the end of the season. The first half of the League is not yet over; let's not be alarmist.
Is Michel Salgado also on the blacklist?
Michel is suspended and that is why he is not playing, but we count on him.
Is Raul still this group's leader?
Raul is the captain and still the best example, both when training and during the games. He is the true leader.
Zaragoza is not a simple opponent.
They are a good side. Very dangerous and with top quality in attack; they are the team who score most goals after a play. They have completely recovered and have been doing well in the last few matches. It will be a tough game.
Did the debuts of Higuaín and Gago leave a good taste in your mouth?
They are young and enthusiastic and they also need to come to grips with Spanish football because they are used to Argentinian football. But they are both very compelling players.
Madrid showed their worst and their best face against Zaragoza in the prior campaign.
We will win exactly by the same result as the return leg of last season's King's Cup tie, that is, 4-0.
