Ronaldo ready for exit

Ronaldo remains hopeful that talks with Real Madrid will conclude with him being released on a free transfer in order to join Milan.

The Brazil international has fallen foul of Fabio Capello's desire to purge his squad of those that he feels no longer have the appetite to play on the highest stage.

David Beckham has seen his days in the Spanish capital numbered by the Italian disciplinarian and now, Ronaldo too appears to also be heading for the exit door.

Milan are eager to bring him back to Serie A, where he previously enjoyed a prolific but injury ravaged spell at their neighbours Internazionale earlier in his career.

They are not, though, willing to pay a fee for his services, leaving Ronaldo with the task of trying to negotiate a release from his existing contract.

"I think my future will be far from Madrid," said Ronaldo. "It will be that way because the coach doesn't want me."

Agent Ernesto Bronzetti, who is handling the deal from Milan's end, is confident that an agreement could be struck before too long.

"I'm still optimistic," he said. "This will be resolved. Everything is in Ronaldo's hands."
