Fabio Capello regretted the defensive mistakes that allowed Celta's goals
"I liked the game a lot," stated Fabio Capello in defense of his team's effort and undeserved defeat against Celta. The Italian coach asserted that his team had not deserved this unfair punishment, but "two concessions" ended up in defeat. He did hint at good news for football in general for the upcoming future: he liked the Van Nistelrooy-Ronaldo partnership and will probably line them up together again.
"We had many chances, but we didn't score. I think we played a good game. Actually, it's the first time I really enjoyed the team. But we gave away too much and Celta took advantage of the concessions."
"I like the second half especially. I subbed Diarra because he was booked and I was afraid we might end up with 10 men on the pitch."
"Ronaldo had a few cramps. He had a great chance. I really liked how he paired up with Van Nistelrooy. I am sure that the two of them can be lined up from the start. I will use this partnership again, for sure."
"The defeat is absolutely unfair. We made two isolated mistakes, but we had six or seven very clear opportunities, maybe even an uncalled penalty, but then again it's only a penalty if the referee calls it."
"We have to wait a bit because we have very recently changed out game style."
