Four and a half years of Brazilian magic at Real Madrid

In 2002, Ronaldo made his debut with Real Madrid by scoring two goals. Since then, the goals scored by the Whites' number '9' have been many. Ronaldo won one League, one Intercontinental Cup and one Spanish Cup Winners Cup with Real Madrid.

Ronaldo was signed by Florentino Pérez in 2002 and made his debut on 6 October that same year against Alavés in a match the Whites won 5-2 and in which Ronie scored his team's final two goals. Ronaldo's figures were impressive during his first year at Real Madrid. His 29 goals were pivotal in the Club's victory in the League and in the Intercontinental Cup won in December 2002 against Olimpia de Asunción -Ronaldo scored the first goal against Olimpia thanks to a pass by Roberto Carlos. In 2002, Ronie was awarded the Ballon d'Or and the FIFA World Player awards thanks to his great performance in the Japan/Korea World Cup -he scored all of Brazil's goals in the final against Germany. He was phenomenal despite having recently recovered from a very serious injury he got at Inter Milan.

During his second season at Real Madrid -2003/04- Ronaldo's personal figures were even more impressive. He managed to become the top scorer in the Spanish League with 24 nettings and he scored four goals in the Champions League. On the other hand, fortune wasn't on Real Madrid's side that year and they only managed to win the Spanish Cup Winners Cup.

MORE GOALS
During the following season, Ronaldo kept performing at a high level. He scored 21 goals in the League and three in the Champions League. Real Madrid were knocked out of the European competition in the Last 16 round by Juventus. The Whites also lost in the Last 16 in the King's Cup against Valladolid and they lost the League to Barcelona. This was Ronie's first season with no titles at Real Madrid.

The Brazilian striker's scoring figures decreased last season. He also suffered from a serious injury from a tackle by Atletico Madrid's Perea in a match at the Vicente Calderón. Despite taking part in only 23 games, Ronaldo managed to score as many as 14 goals in the League and two in the Champions League.

This year, Ronaldo has only scored one goal in seven League matches. The operation he underwent during the pre-season due to calcification on one of his knees made him play few matches this year. Fabio Capello has never given the Brazilian player any continuity on his team, although he has played him alongside Ruud Van Nistelrooy on occasion. Ronaldo now embarks on a new sporting project at AC Milan.
