Ronaldo injured: The Brazilian striker will miss three to four weeks
Ronaldo's return has been derailed yet again. After recovering from knee problems that kept him from playing for more than two months, the Brazilian international reappeared in League play against Real Sociedad and had been given more and more playing time to reach ideal form. On Thursday, he was paired up with Ruud Van Nistelrooy for the first time and returned to his scoring ways, but his happiness didn't last long, as he will be out for three to four weeks with a sprained ligament.
Everything seemed perfect following Real Madrid's Cup win on Thursday. The team qualified for the next round with a 5-1 drubbing of Ecija thanks to Van Nistelrooy's great sense of scoring and De la Red proving that the youth team is on the up and up. However, the news of the night was Ronaldo, who was on the pitch for kickoff and teamed up with Van Nistelrooy in attack.
Little by little, the Brazilian has been regaining his football, and he proved it during Thursday's match, which was highlighted by a brilliant pass to Van Nistelrooy that Beckham would eventuallty score, as well as his own fantastic goal from the front of the box. Ronaldo had taken over the game.
However, there was a moment when The Phenomenon made a gesture which appeared that something in his knee wasn't right. The Brazilian continued playing and was on the pitch for the final whistle. No one predicted Friday morning's news.
Ronaldo's knee had fired a warning shot, and on Friday it was still bothering the Madridista attacker. An MRI confirmed the bad news: a sprained internal lateral ligament of the left knee and no football for three to four weeks. It's a terrible setback for the Carioca star, who will have to go through yet another recovery phase before rejoining his teammates just when he was reaching the form coach Fabio Capello wanted him in.
