Capello press conference: "My men only think about playing well"
Fabio Capello talked to the press after this morning's training session. He said his players are motivated and that they have improved considerably since the start of the season. Capello considers all his players starters and isn't worried about having injured defenders.
Are you worried about the problems you might experience in defence tomorrow?
Helguera has a niggle due to a hit and Cannavaro is suspended, but we'll try to recover them for the match in Kiev. Sergio will play as centre back, but I still haven't decided who will be his partner in that position. I'll know tomorrow. Mejía played well against Valencia and we have 20 starter players anyway, so there shouldn't be a problem.
Do you expect Athletic Bilbao to be very defensive?
I still haven't seen a single team that has mainly attacked against us at the Bernabéu. They all tend to defend and counterattack. This can hurt us considerably.
Will you line up two strikers tomorrow?
I'll decide tomorrow. There are many possibilities I'm considering.
Is Ronaldo fit to play?
He's in great shape. He is working very hard and is nearly in perfect form.
Ten years ago you had the same points at this stage of the season and you managed to win the League.
I always think positively. I only focus on those teams who are ahead of us, but I think we are doing well this season.
You play at the Bernabéu tomorrow. It seems your team suffers less at home than in away games.
I wish we suffered even less because we have lost points here in Madrid. We've been unlucky at times. My players are excited and are working very well.
There is a Club Members Assembly tomorrow. Will this be a distraction for the team?
No. Both the coaching staff and the squad only think about playing matches. Everything else besides that is for the Club and its members to deal with. We can't use the Assembly as an excuse for a bad performance if that were the case tomorrow.
What impression has Marcelo caused on you?
He played his first match today. I already knew he had a lot of quality: he has a powerful left leg, he is very fast and his passing is excellent. He is still only 18 years old, so he has yet to learn many things.
Do you think the team needs Gago?
I don't like talking about players who aren't on the squad. We the coaching staff talk about many players before making any decisions.
What do you think of De la Red and Javi García?
They improve every week. They are working well. They are very young and have a lot of potential for improvement. It's normal for every player to want to play on the first team. I like players to train with excitement, not simply to get in shape.
Have you been teasing Ronaldo in the changing Room?
I will never talk about what happens in the changing room.
Is Galli a member of your staff?
He's been scouting players for us this season.
